Residency 2020

From July to November 2020, I was Artist-in-Residence at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, Tennant Creek, Northern Territory.  During the first months I worked on paintings of the local Warumungu people based on the 1901 photographs of Baldwin Spencer. All of the paintings were gifted to the culture centre.  As I got to know local elders coming into the Culture Centre, some agreed to sit for me and I began painting their portraits.

  1. The portraits are phemenol. Love the use of a limited palette. Rememicent of my travels in the red Centre.
I’d love the see the whole of the invasion series in one place. Do you have plans to exhibit the whole series anywhere?

  2. Really inspiring use of application and the relationship to story, country, and people. Will be a really important viewing of your work by all Australians.

  3. Thanks your work Bevil,
your brother was kind enough to send me a link to your site, having sent on to me your note on “governmentium “good fun!
Congratulations on what you doing, it only emphasises again in my mind, the tragedy at the heart of this country. Too many Australians with their hands on the levers of power fail to recognise the significance of the things you are realising on canvas.
Again, well done you are one of the very best of British.
